Reimagining your rooms
CASE STUDIES
Park Slope, Brooklyn / Living Room
A thirty-something woman in Brooklyn approached me to restyle her primary living space. I figured out her aesthetic goals, took inventory of what she already had that she loved, then identified what she was willing to part with or replace. We agreed on solutions and I began sourcing.

PROBLEM
The client described her pain points as a lack of light, art and books in random piles vs. displayed intentionally, inefficient use of space that somehow felt cluttered despite a large room, and an uninspired and unproductive workspace in the corner.

SOLUTION
To create calming uniformity and luxury, I hung panels of wall-to-wall white curtains around the glass panes, starting close to the ceiling for grandeur. Vertical sconces behind the curtains give a cozy glow. Furniture along the perimeters was placed intentionally in center of the room for a more adult vibe and different use areas. We showed off the warmth of the wood floors with a circular textured rug for feminine contrast.

This area with a juncture of multiple doors felt chaotic. We leaned on openness, light, repetition and uniformity to create order.

Intentional use of space lead to clearing the clutter in the living room, which inspired more clearing throughout the home.
The client loved her couch throw pillows, so when we found a rug that met our criteria, it was a
bonus that it spoke to items she already owned and adored.
Findings

We added a gallery wall per the client’s request, and moved the mirror across from the window and door to reflect the natural light and scenery into the living room. The desk, previously shoved in the corner, was moved to the window to promote creativity. Books were consolidated into one area and the randomly placed shelves came down.
Client Testimonial
“I was blown away by Irene’s thoughtful discovery questions that shaped
how she approached the project. From asking me how I wanted to feel in the space to giving me purchase-ready options within my budget, she elevated my space and transformed it into a room where I enjoy spending time and hosting. The floor-to-ceiling curtains were inspired and make my living room luxurious.”
Downtown Los Angeles / Kitchen

Over a series of facetime calls in 2023, I advised this virtual client in Downtown Los Angeles on achieving the goal of bringing in more color and texture.

She was especially inspired by her brass tea kettle, so we identified ways she could bring in more of that element while staying within her budget, which did not allow for a rack of hanging copper pans.
WORK EXPERIENCE
I bring a wide range of experience to solve your problems
Chrissy Gamba Interiors / Design Assistant
Chrissy Gamba Interiors is a full-service design firm. Chrissy has over ten years of experience in the design industry, working for award-winning AD100 firm Amy Lau Design prior to launching her own studio in 2018.
Assisting Chrissy familiarized me with the logistical ins and outs of high-level interior design—
sourcing furniture and materials from vendors, surveying properties, and optimizing inventories, schedules, and product specs. I managed budgets (invoices and POs). I was responsible for managing timelines, shipping, building code requirements, budgets (invoices & POs), and client presentations to deliver projects within scope with fewer revisions.
Hovey Design / Installation Assistant
Hovey Design is a full-service, Brooklyn-based interior staging firm founded by sisters, Hollister and Porter Hovey. They stage homes and select decor with an artist’s eye (Hollister paints most of the art) and create interiors that match the beauty and design of the neighborhoods that draw buyers there in the first place.
Installing their aesthetic honed my ability to recognize and recreate visual formulas and distinguish
between interior styles and eras.

Immersive Producer & Narrative Designer
Creating immersive pop-up experiences were all about designing how people experience a space using game theory, logic, story, systems thinking, and emotion.
I bring this deep understanding of User Experience & world building to my interior design work.
